Private Smart Image Compression

LuxTool compresses images on your device using browser-side WebAssembly codecs. Smart mode compares sensible modern formats, dimensions and quality settings, then recommends the smallest useful result without uploading the image.

Compress an Image to a Target Size

Choose 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or enter a custom target. The compressor uses a bounded quality search to find the highest practical quality at or below the target. If the target is impossible at the current dimensions, the result is reported honestly and resizing is suggested.

Built for Websites and Bulk Work

  • MozJPEG, OxiPNG, WebP and AVIF encoding
  • Private batch compression for up to 30 images
  • Responsive before-and-after quality comparison
  • Optional resizing without upscaling
  • Individual files, ZIP downloads and website format comparisons

Image Compressor FAQ

Does LuxTool upload my images?

No. Image content is decoded, resized and compressed locally in your browser. It is not sent to LuxTool or a third-party image API.

Which format gives the smallest file?

It depends on the image. AVIF often compresses photos efficiently, WebP offers a strong size and compatibility balance, JPG remains useful for photographs, and PNG is appropriate for lossless graphics and transparency.

Should I use WebP or AVIF?

Use WebP for broad modern compatibility and fast encoding. Consider AVIF when the smallest practical file matters. Website mode lets you compare both.

How can I compress an image to 100KB or 200KB?

Select the target size. LuxTool searches quality settings efficiently and reports whether the target was met. If not, choose a smaller maximum width or Maximum Compression.

Does compression reduce image quality?

Lossy JPG, WebP and AVIF trade some image detail for smaller files. PNG optimization is lossless. The comparison viewer lets you inspect the result before downloading.

Can I compress multiple images?

Yes. Select or drop up to 30 supported images, compress the batch, download individual results or create a ZIP.

Does LuxTool remove metadata?

Re-encoding normally removes EXIF and location metadata when enabled. Preservation varies by format and codec, so the tool does not promise to keep metadata when disabled.

What is lossless PNG compression?

Lossless PNG optimization rewrites the PNG more efficiently without changing its decoded pixels or transparency.

Should I resize images for websites?

Usually. Serving a 4000-pixel photo in a 1200-pixel layout wastes bandwidth. A maximum width such as 1920 or 1600 pixels often produces a better web result.
