Which Image Format Should I Choose?
- WebP: recommended for most websites; compact and transparency-friendly.
- JPG: widely compatible and efficient for photographs, but no transparency.
- PNG: lossless and ideal for logos, screenshots and transparent graphics.
- AVIF: excellent compression when the local browser codec is available.
- BMP: genuine uncompressed bitmap output for legacy workflows.
Image Converter FAQ
Are my images uploaded?
No. Files stay in your browser throughout decoding, conversion, preview and download.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG?
Yes. HEIC and HEIF still images are decoded locally, then can be exported to JPG or another enabled output format.
What happens to transparent pixels in JPG or BMP?
Those formats cannot preserve transparency. LuxTool warns you and fills transparent areas with your selected background color.
Does animated GIF conversion preserve animation?
No. The converter detects animated GIF files, warns you clearly, and converts the first frame only.
Why might AVIF be unavailable?
The AVIF button is enabled only after LuxTool successfully runs and verifies the local AVIF encoder. It never labels a PNG fallback as AVIF.
Can I convert multiple images?
Yes. Multiple selection opens batch mode automatically with per-file status, retry, remove, download and ZIP controls.
