Free Typing Test and Personalized Practice

Take a free typing speed test, measure standardized WPM, raw speed, accuracy and consistency, then discover the keys and combinations that slow you down. LuxTool keeps your history and mistake analysis locally in your browser—no account required.

How LuxTool calculates WPM

One normalized word equals five characters. WPM uses correctly typed characters, while Raw WPM includes every printable keystroke. Accuracy reflects correct keystrokes, and consistency measures variation in sampled typing speed throughout the test.

Typing Test FAQ

What is a good typing speed?

Around 40 WPM is a practical everyday speed. Consistent accuracy matters more than chasing a single high result.

How accurate is this typing test?

LuxTool uses the conventional five-character word standard and the same scoring engine for live stats, results, history and personal bests.

How can I improve my typing speed?

Start with accuracy, use the mistake analysis to find weak keys, and practice the recommended real-word drills regularly.

Should I focus on speed or accuracy?

Build toward at least 97% accuracy first. Clean repetitions develop speed more reliably than rushed error-filled practice.

What is typing consistency?

Consistency describes how stable your sampled WPM remains. LuxTool calculates it from the coefficient of variation rather than inventing a score.

Can I practice weak keys and coding?

Yes. Adaptive drills use your real mistakes, and Coding mode includes JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Python, JSON and SQL.

Does LuxTool save what I type?

Your sessions, custom text and mistake data stay in local browser storage. Typed content is not sent to analytics.

Can I use my own text?

Yes. Custom text supports up to 10,000 characters and never leaves your browser.
